"I'm finding it harder & harder to stay in touch." Gena Rowlands gives a tour de force performance as Broadway actress & alcoholic Myrtle Gordon, spiralling into emotional oblivion after her car runs down, & kills, a young fan. Blurring the lines between stage, screen & reality, between performance & being, Cassavetes' film seems to be asking the same question as Deleuze: "Where then, does theatre finish & life begin?" The film won Rowlands a Silver Bear at Berlin and also stars Ben Gazzara, Joan Blondell and Cassavetes.
