OCTOBER 17: German Roots of Noir - 8:15pm

Spione

(Fritz Lang) 1928 Germany 145 mins

Lang's breathlessly plotted thriller has Detective No. 326 (Willy Fritsch) attempting to thwart seemingly respectable, wheelchair-bound master criminal (Rudolf Klein-Rogge). An extraordinary mix of modernism & pulp, Lang utilises breathless editing to organise incredibly dense overlapping plot intrigues into a lucid pattern brimming with suspense. Co-scripted by Thea von Harbou. Co-starring Lupu Pick. Recently restored imported 35mm print.

Screens after The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. (7.00pm)
