June 18 - 7:00pm
Nigel Buesst (1973) 50 mins

With bold colour, harsh sound & heavy blows, Buesst’s film is a raw & fascinating insight into the ethics & aesthetics of low budget ‘70s Melbourne filmmaking. A young Aboriginal fighter, played by trained boxer Michael Karpaney, is torn between his career, his mates & the demands of a group of students campaigning for Aboriginal rights. Featuring some fine performances, the film’s greatest asset is its unflinching & unsentimental gaze on the difficulties a blackfella must face in Australian society.
* Followed by Carlton + Godard = Cinema at 8.00pm.
