March 26 - 6:30pm
Jean-Luc Godard (1988-1998) 265 mins

This epic video work is widely regarded as Godard’s late reflective masterpiece & is one of the great audio-visual explorations of cinema’s labyrinthine history, its status as the 20th century’s pre-eminent art form & its always - for this director anyway - imminent demise. Cinema’s master bricoleur juxtaposes & superimposes the most iconic & lesser-known moments from cinema history, together with a remarkable selection of music & text, in an ongoing quest for filmic truth & a journey into the outer regions of the profoundly vexing relationship between sound & image. Evocatively described by Chris Darke as “a wake lit by fireworks”, this is the Melbourne premiere of the complete version of Godard’s career-capping work.
