Qin Tao (1957) 113 mins

This popular Mandarin-language comedy about 4 vivacious sisters & their intriguing love affairs was adapted by writer-director Qin Tao from a novel by Zheng Hui. It shares intriguing commonalities with Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women but cleverly transposed to contemporary Hong Kong in the late ‘50s & enlivened with “one car-crash, a two-way catfight, three musical numbers & a long series of parties, around which major drama always occur”. Best Film at the 5th Asian Film Festival.
